Ann Cates, Master Holy Yoga Instructor
Certifications: Touch Therapy, Chair Yoga, Trauma Sensitive Yoga, 500 hour Masters Certification
My yoga journey started in 2009 when I was diagnosed with scoliosis. The surgeon said my only option was to fuse my spine. I decided to seek another path which included chiropractic, massage and yoga.
I noticed yoga helped my pain level tremendously as well as helped me mentally, physically and spiritually. I knew I needed to be much more intentional about my yoga practice so I decided to be trained as a yoga instructor. In June 2011 I took the 200 hour training at Houston Yoga Institute and learned the basics. I began teaching one class a week and for the next five years I continued to teach what I knew and what had helped me so much.
I am a follower of Jesus Christ and I wanted to include the spiritual elements of biblical meditation into my practice. In January 2016, I took Holy Yoga’s 95 Hour certification. This training in biblical meditation, bible study as well as anatomy and breath work have given me clarity on my mission and calling in my life. I have a better understanding of the postures and support from the community of other instructors who are all over the world, doing the same thing I do.
Now, I teach a therapeutic version of Hatha yoga with a Christ centered prayer, breath work and biblical meditation. I am committed to providing a safe environment to allow others to find their pathway to healing. I lead in a way that is sensitive to the needs of the individual. My prayer is that because of the work we are doing, you will feel stronger, healthier and have grace and joy in your life journey. I’d like to invite you to come and see what God has in store for you.
