During this unprecedented time I have to remind myself, that there is nothing new under the sun! We all deal with anxiety and fear at some point in our lives. God says in His word, “Do not fear” over 365 times. That’s one for every day of the year! King David had a lot to be anxious about too. In Psalm 55, The Psalm of betrayal, David is running for his life from someone who was one of his closest allies! In Psalm 56:3-4 TPT we find his prayer to God in his time of anxiety and fear:
But in the day that I’m afraid, I lay all my fears before you
and trust in you with all my heart.
What harm could a man bring to me?
With God on my side I will not be afraid of what comes.
The roaring praises of God fill my heart,
and I will always triumph as I trust his promises.
We can learn so much from David! First we acknowledge the fear and lay it out before the Lord. Good, bad, whatever! Just spill it!! Then, we make the choice to trust in, rely on and depend only on God. He’s on your side!
Lastly, we thank Him and praise Him in advance for whatever He will do. Let the roaring praises of God fill your heart! He is good and does good things. Recall the times in the past when he has delivered you, healed you or just blessed you when you didn’t deserve it.
A heart of gratitude returns our minds to relationship with Jesus and makes us aware of the goodness of God in the presence of fear or anxiety. Gratitude is like opening the door to God’s grace, love and healing. Remember, He loves you and wants to be with you in every circumstance. He promises to never leave you. Trust His promises.
